Quitline Program
Young people often believe that quitting tobacco use will be easy; however, once addicted, you may find that quitting is difficult and overwhelming, especially if you are trying to quit on your own. Teens who smoke are less physically fit and have more respiratory illnesses than friends who don’t smoke.
Using tobacco as a teenager or young adult can cause lungs to not develop normally and can lead to heart disease, stroke, and cancers as you get older. Quitting smoking is one of the most important steps you can take to improve your immediate and future health.
Are you 13 to 17 years old and want to quit using tobacco? Call the Maryland Tobacco Quitline at 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669).
The FREE specialized counseling program for teens and young adults includes FIVE counseling calls provided when it is most convenient. All calls are private.
During the specialized calls, youth coaches will provide:
- Five counseling calls
- Personalized counseling delivered by highly skilled youth coaches
- Discussion of triggers, stressors, peer influences, and exposure to second-hand smoke
- Coaches will give you tips to help you not start using tobacco again after you quit
- If you wish, educational materials can be mailed directly to your home
